Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with ShopSync in just a few minutes! This guide is for end users who want to start using the app right away.

Choose Your Platform

Using ShopSync on the Web

  1. Visit the App

Go to app.shopsync.aadish.dev

  1. Sign In

  2. Click the "Sign in with Google" button

  3. Select your Google account
  4. Grant necessary permissions

  5. Start Creating Lists

You're ready! Create your first shopping list by clicking the + button.

Add to Home Screen

ShopSync is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can add it to your home screen for a native app experience:

  • Chrome: Menu → Add to Home Screen
  • Safari: Share → Add to Home Screen

Installing on Android

  1. Download from Play Store

Get it on Google Play

  1. Install the App

Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.

  1. Open ShopSync

Launch the app from your home screen or app drawer.

  1. Sign In

  2. Tap "Sign in with Google"

  3. Select your Google account
  4. Grant necessary permissions

  5. Enable Home Widget (Optional)

  6. Long-press on your home screen

  7. Tap Widgets
  8. Find ShopSync widgets
  9. Drag your preferred widget to the home screen

Using on WearOS

Requires Android App

WearOS support is included with the Android app. Install the Android app first.

  1. Install Android App

Download and install ShopSync from the Play Store on your phone.

  1. Automatic Sync

The WearOS companion app will automatically install on your paired smartwatch.

  1. Open on Watch

Find ShopSync in your watch's app drawer.

  1. Use Lists

  2. Scroll through lists with the rotary dial

  3. Tap items to complete/uncomplete them
  4. View list details and categories

!!! note "WearOS Limitations" You can only view and complete items on your watch. Use your phone or web app to create, edit, or delete items.

First Steps

1. Create Your First List

After signing in, create your first shopping list:

  1. Tap the floating action button (+ icon)
  2. Enter a name for your list (e.g., "Weekly Groceries")
  3. Optionally, choose a color
  4. Tap Create

2. Add Items

Add items to your list:

  1. Open your list
  2. Tap the Add Item button
  3. Enter the item name
  4. Optionally:
  5. Set quantity
  6. Choose a category
  7. Add notes
  8. Select an icon
  9. Tap Add

Smart Suggestions

As you type, ShopSync will suggest items and automatically select appropriate icons!

3. Share Your List

Collaborate with others:

  1. Open your list
  2. Tap the share icon (top right)
  3. Share via:
  4. Direct link
  5. Text message
  6. Email
  7. Other apps
  8. Recipients can view and edit the list in real-time

4. Check Off Items

As you shop:

  1. Tap the checkbox next to each item
  2. Checked items move to the bottom
  3. Everyone sharing the list sees updates instantly

Essential Features

Offline Mode

ShopSync works without internet:

  • ✅ View all your lists
  • ✅ Add and edit items
  • ✅ Check off items
  • ✅ Changes sync automatically when back online

No Internet Indicator

When offline, you'll see an indicator in the app. Your changes are saved locally and will sync once you're back online.

Categories

Organize items by category:

  • Produce
  • Dairy
  • Meat
  • Bakery
  • Pantry
  • Frozen
  • Beverages
  • And more!

Categories help you shop efficiently by grouping related items.

List Groups

Organize multiple lists:

  1. Long-press a list on the home screen
  2. Select Move to Group
  3. Create a new group or choose an existing one

Example groups:

  • Grocery Stores
  • Home Projects
  • Gift Ideas

Recycle Bin

Recover deleted items:

  1. Open SettingsRecycle Bin
  2. View deleted items and lists
  3. Tap Restore to recover
  4. Items are permanently deleted after 30 days

Common Tasks

Editing Items

  1. Tap an item in your list
  2. Modify any details
  3. Tap Save

Deleting Items

Changing Themes

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Theme
  3. Choose:

Exporting Lists

  1. Open a list
  2. Tap menu (⋮) → Export
  3. Choose format:
  4. Text
  5. CSV
  6. Share via any app

Tips for Success

Keep Lists Focused

Create separate lists for different stores or purposes rather than one mega-list.

Use Categories

Assign categories to items to navigate your store more efficiently.

Share Smart

Share lists with people who will actively use them. You can always unshare later.

Check Often

Keep ShopSync open while shopping to see real-time updates from family members.

Use Icons

Icons make items easier to identify at a glance while shopping.
